Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to install a replacement boiler?

With British Gas, installation is always included in the price of your new boiler. Whether you’re ordering online or through one of our heating advisers, give us all the details and we’ll give you one easy to understand quote.

How long does it take to install a replacement boiler?

Installing a new boiler usually takes 1-3 days. If your new boiler is the same type as your old one, it will be simpler and quicker than if you were changing to a different type – for example, from a conventional boiler to a combi boiler. Keeping your new boiler in the same place as the old one will make installation quicker than relocating it, as this creates extra work like changing the pipework.

What happens when a new boiler is fitted?

Your engineer will drain down your central heating and hot water system so that they can disconnect and remove your old boiler. They will then clean out your heating system to get rid of impurities in the system pipework. They’ll then install your new boiler and check that everything is working as it should be. Once that’s done, they’ll talk you through the boiler and system controls and show you how to use it. Our step-by-step guide to new boiler installations explains everything in more detail.

What happens after a new boiler is fitted?

Once your expert engineer has installed your new boiler, they’ll check that everything is working as it should be and then talk you through the boiler and system controls and show you how to use it. Our step-by-step guide to new boiler installations explains everything in more detail.

And we’re here to keep your new boiler in top condition and working as efficiently as possible with our market-leading aftercare package. We’ll be back to give your new boiler its first annual service, and you’re also covered by a warranty of up to 12 years.

That means that if anything goes wrong, we’ll be there to repair it – or to replace it for FREE if we can’t.

You’ll need to have your new boiler serviced annually to keep the warranty valid. To save the hassle of remembering to book this in, all of our HomeCare packages include an annual boiler service at no extra cost. With HomeCare, we’ll give you

  • Unlimited call-outs and repairs
  • Annual boiler service for £7.75 a month
  • Service inclusive of all parts and labour costs

How do I accept my boiler quote?

However you choose to get your new boiler quote, we’ll email you a copy of it and you’ll also be able to access it on our website. You can either accept it online or call us to accept it. When you do, you’ll be able to choose an installation date that’s convenient for you.

If you opt for a home visit to get your quote, then you can accept it from your expert heating adviser there and then. You don’t have to accept it straightaway - they’ll leave you their contact details so you can take some time to think about it. Similarly, if you get your quote online, you can accept it immediately on the website.

How much does a boiler service cost?

According to our friends at Local Heroes, the average cost of a boiler service in the UK is £99. The price you pay for a boiler service might be higher or lower, depending on the type of boiler you have and where in the country you live.

It’s important to have your boiler serviced regularly because not only will doing so keep it in top condition and running as efficiently as possible, but your warranty may also be invalidated if you don’t.

At British Gas, we give you a choice of how to service your boiler:

  • One-off service with no ongoing commitment for £99
  • Annual boiler service for £7.75 a month

What is the cost of a new combi boiler?

The size of your home and the number of radiators it has will determine the cost of a new combi boiler. A new combi boiler for a small one-bedroom flat with only five radiators will cost much less than a new combi boiler for a large detached house with lots of bedrooms, bathrooms and radiators.
